As the rain began to taper off in the early afternoon this Saturday, we prepared to host one of those weddings that photographers dream about. It’s not very often we get to host traditional Indian weddings, and we’re always very excited when multi-cultural couples decide to tie the knot with us! The rain threatened to cause a delay, but the fervent dancers refused to have their spirits dampened.
The groom’s family and friends formed a sort of dancing parade for the Baraat as they escorted him to Grand Ballroom. Josh rode upon a beautiful white horse from our own Equestrian Center as he followed the music and his faithful dancing groomsmen through the parking lot.
At the entrance of Grand Ballroom, the elders of the joining families greeted and danced with each other in a brilliant, whirling display of bright colors and stunning patterns. The groom danced not only with his best man, but also with his father and mother, and with the family of his intended as they came out to join the celebration. Even the littlest of guests hurried outside to dance. Finally, to more enthusiastic cheering, Josh made his way inside to await his bride.
From here, with few exceptions, most weddings follow a general format. A priest will speak solemnly and with the weight of centuries of tradition, the groom will wait nervously and excitedly, the bridesmaids will make their graceful entrance, the crowd will stand as the bride suddenly fills the entryway, the couple will exchange beautiful and heartfelt vows to love each other and remain ever faithful, the priest follows up with words of advise and encouragement, the big kiss everyone has been waiting for, and then a grand exeunt down the center aisle.
Of course, there aren’t many weddings where bridesmaids attempt to sneakily steal the shoes of the groom. You don’t see very many groomsmen triumphantly hold the groom’s shoes aloft after thwarting the bridesmaids. And although it may happen occasionally, it’s not tradition for the groom to forget to turn his phone on silent and end up answering a call.
Every wedding we host here at Lake Lanier Islands Resort is entirely unique, and we genuinely enjoy every single one for moments such as these. And of course, for that big kiss everyone’s been waiting for.
